AZUL was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
Those enamored of the romantic Latin ballad stylings of such artists as Enrique Iglesias will immediately warm up to the warm, fuzzy sound of Cristian. Though the Latin explosion in pop helped Cristian to become a crossover hit, he's no Enrique-come-lately. He's a prolific artist who's been around the block enough to learn the ins and outs of crafting the kind of lush, emotive, wide-screen pop that dominates AZUL. If you're after the kind of churning, Tom Jones-with-a-Spanish-accent stuff that made a star of Ricky Martin, look elsewhere. But if a soulful crooner pouring his heart out over a background of atmospheric keyboards and a thick orchestral wash sounds appealing, let Azul (Spanish for "Blue," by the way) whisk you away.
