If you're looking for an ideal introduction to fiddle playing as practiced in North America, look no further than this stuffed-full Rounder Heritage release, which serves up some 33 tracks of various vintages, many of them previously unreleased. This is traditional fiddle playing as you'll find it (or would have, in some instances) in sitting rooms, family kitchens, church halls, social halls, and on commons and greens -- music with roots in England, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as in much of Europe and Scandinavia. An exciting, energetic collection to sit and listen to, and very distracting indeed when trying to read through the detailed notes (in very small type) by producer Mark Wilson. Rounder has certainly hit the bull's-eye here. ~ Steven McDonald
