It's not saying much, but this unambitiously titled collection remains the nearest that Alex Harvey, with or without his Sensational... Band, has ever come to a serious anthology.
Across four sides of vinyl, 19 tracks range across all but the last of SAHB's original albums (it ignores the deeply depressing Rock Drill) in search of favorites, picking up all the obvious cuts of course, but also unearthing a few minor treasures that were lost amid the grandiosity of their original surroundings. From there, the set then swings into Harvey's activities following the final break-up of the band, with the god-fearing title track from his so-under-rated Mafia Stole My Guitar album, and the remarkable version of Bob Marley's "Big Tree Small Axe" with which Harvey had been wowing Rock Against Racism festival audiences during 1978-79. Released as a barely promoted single, the track passed most fans and collectors by. If the collectors' market be our guide, its inclusion here more than justifies the price of admission. ~ Dave Thompson
