A.LI.CE: A.Li.Ce was the first Japanese feature to be done entirely in computer-generated images, and it is a stunning production with amazingly realistic characters and movement, and bright, beautiful mise en scne. Young Alice Hayashi is the winner of the Lunar Sweepstakes, and her prize is a trip to outer space. She quickly runs into trouble, however, when her shuttle crashes in the Arctic Circle and she is the only surviving passenger; moreover, she has been catapulted 30 years into the future and the world is now ruled by the shadowy, tyrannical Nero and his supercomputer, the SS10X. A former computer specialist, Nero has put together an army of Stealth Troopers and undertaken a campaign to reduce the world's population.
Joining forces with Yuan, another lone survivor of tragedy, and Mary, a robot waitress who becomes a bodyguard of sorts, Alice learns that she shares a common bond with Nero; she realizes that she may be the only hope of the resistance forces to free the world from its oppression. The trio undertakes a journey toward a final confrontation with the misguided dictator. The story of A.Li.Ce will appeal to children and anime fans alike, and the lavishness of the production is sure to impress audiences of every ilk.
BLUE REMAINS: One of the first entirely CGI-animated films, this is a film of historical importance for animation fans, as well as an adventure story with a strong environmental message that the whole family should enjoy. Amamiku is the daughter of two scientists who travel back in time to an Earth that has been destroyed by nuclear war. There they leave behind seeds containing the genetic code for the planet's rebirth, and their daughter, suspended in stasis, is charged with orchestrating the planet's revival. Eighty years later, Amamiku lives in an underwater realm, which protects her from the radioactive atmosphere. However, she faces another threat, the evil Glyptofane, to whom the presence of humanity on Earth is a curse and whose robotic army will stop at nothing to wipe them out. As she joins forces with the scattered remains of humanity, and knowledge of her presence spreads, a conflict breaks out between the two sides. Meanwhile, Amamiku waits impatiently for the Earth to heal enough for the seeds to germinate. Will she manage to achieve her mission, fulfilling her parents' dream and bringing the Earth back to life?
