    From the film starring Bette Midler, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn as three friends who rally together after their husbands betray them, comes this album of new and old songs about female empowerment. The message is stated most clearly by the title of Eurythmics' contribution: "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves."
    The opening cut, Dionne Warwick's "Wives & Lovers," is an anachronistic chronicle of the travails of a modern wife, but it fits perfectly into the scheme of things here. The proto-feminist sentiment of "Think" is delivered by the queen of soul herself, Aretha Franklin, and it would be a highlight of any collection. Former Weather Girl Martha Wash puts a fresh spin on the Elton John hit "I'm Still Standing," and the three movie stars themselves take a turn on Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me."
