With swinging, contrapuntal cuts such as \"The Cylinder,\" \"Condorde,\" and \"The Golden Striker,\" leader John Lewis's original Bach-and-blues conception is well-represented here. Of course, he couldn't have done it without the sheer improvisational genius of vibraphonist Milton Jackson nor the precisely calibrated accompaniment of bassist Percy Heath and, especially, drummer Connie Kay, one of the most underrated players in the history of the music. Other highlights are \"Django,\" Lewis's mournful tribute to the great Belgian guitarist, and a forward-looking version of Ornette Coleman's \"Lonely Woman.\"","brand":"MovieMars","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46860886147359,"sku":"664140230125","price":21.95,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0679\/7833\/0399\/files\/87bb87570da7a0df6614c3477885caad_b20ea20d-91f2-48ac-b012-c6bb1ca1683c.jpg?v=1777896044","url":"https:\/\/www.moviemars.com\/products\/art-of-the-modern-jazz-quartet","provider":"MovieMars","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
