{"product_id":"turn","title":"Turn","description":"Heading an excellent group, Roscoe Mitchell does not, however, move into any new direction with this otherwise commendable effort. The recording resembles more a career summation, which makes it a perfect primer for anyone interested in exploring his vast and diversified output. He is supported by three musicians who are well acquainted with his musical vision -- drummer Tani Tabbal, bassist Jaribu Shahid, and the excellent pianist Craig Taborn -- as well as a promising newcomer, trumpeter Corey Wilkes, who has also joined Mitchell with the Art Ensemble of Chicago. This is a remarkably focused and concise date featuring Mitchell's brand of atonal jazz mixed with his interests in other musical forms. \"Quintet Nine\" is a Latin dance embellished by his shrill flute; \"Rhine Ridge\" is a foot-tapping funky theme; \"In Six\" flirts with classical chamber music and includes graceful and airy flute playing; and the cacophonous \"Take One\" is a fine platform for his trademark circular breathing prowess. The young Wilkes displays much maturity -- he never rushes and takes his time to develop well-articulated ideas. Taborn delivers yet another performance worth of notice, delivering some choppy but crystalline lines. With a support of such quality, Mitchell can look toward the future with confidence. ~ Alain Drouot","brand":"MovieMars","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46053744541983,"sku":"3760131270037","price":21.95,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0679\/7833\/0399\/files\/85b04adb95bab4831ae1963713a4c651.jpg?v=1777800359","url":"https:\/\/www.moviemars.com\/products\/turn","provider":"MovieMars","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
