Aging Out

Poignant profiles of four young adults who are "aging out" of foster-care programs in New York City and California, and attempting to make it on their own. They achieve varying degrees of success, but it is a struggle. Drugs and psychological problems can be devastating. So can the lack of a real family, no matter how supportive foster parents might be. "It's nice to know we have support," says one. "I only wish it would come from a family rather than a 'system'."
