For those not inclined towards Bennett's 4-disc anthology 40 YEARS , this two-LPs-on-one-disc collection from 1972 is a solid survey of all the singer's hits going all the way back to 1951, including "Rags To Riches" and the castanet-driven "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." 1962's "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" makes it's appearance midway and the increase in confidence and authority in Bennett's performances after this milestone is readily apparent. From this moment on, Tony Bennett "owns" just about any song he sings, as his definitive versions of "Who Can I Turn To," "The Shadow Of Your Smile" and "For Once In My Life" amply demonstrate.
