The Baby Namboos include: Aurora Borealis, Tony Quigley, Leo Coleing (vocals); Julian Brooke (bass); Mad-Dog (drums); Mark Porter (programming).
Additional personnel: Tricky (vocals); Claude Williams.
On their debut album Ancoats 2 Zambia, the Baby Namboos mix elements of trip-hop, dub, and rap into songs like "Hard Times," "Provoked," and the title track, which showcase the group's three vocalists and atmospheric yet direct approach. Given the album's shuffling beats and hypnotic vocals, it's not surprising that the Baby Namboos are related to -- and share a label with -- Tricky, who also performs on the title track, "Provoked," and "Persist to Reminisce." A strong, engaging debut, Ancoats 2 Zambia exemplifies Durban Poison's style without sounding too derivative of the label's best-known artist. ~ Heather Phares
