Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer

A telling, candid, knockout portrait of be-bop songstress extraordinaire Anita O'Day (1919-2006) chronicling a turbulent life and career that was marked by alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual abuse and some rocky romantic relationships. The performance clips are outstanding, especially her unforgettable, scat-laced take on "Sweet Georgia Brown," which brought down the house at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1959 and is as good as it gets.
