Adding to their legacy of sonic destruction, Chelsea Grin return with their third album of devastating deathcore, Ashes to Ashes. On every track, it feels like the band is out to destroy the listener, delivering track after unrelenting track of sheer brutality. Drawing from what seems like an endless supply of hatred and rage, the offerings here are fueled by a feeling of almost savage catharsis, with each track feeling like an animal lashing out at anything unfortunate enough to get within striking range. Not just content to be a one-trick pony, however, Chelsea Grin marry their punishing breakdowns with some pretty dazzling guitar work, showing that there's more to their sound than just smashing the listener into oblivion. That said, the band's sound is startlingly menacing, making Ashes to Ashes a thrilling, if not slightly terrifying, listen. ~ Gregory Heaney
