This interesting collection of previously unreleased material features drummer Peter Erskine in several different settings dating from 1991-1996. Erskine's drums are showcased with the WDR Big Band on four numbers and with small groups on the remainder. Among the other key soloists are vibraphonist Mike Mainieri (with the orchestra), tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, pianist Kenny Werner, guitarist John Scofield, tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer, trumpeter Randy Brecker, pianist Alan Pasqua, and Marc Johnson and John Patitucci on basses. The music consists of originals (six by Erskine) and shows off the versatile drummer excelling both with the orchestra and the combos. This set serves as a strong introduction to Peter Erskine's talents. ~ Scott Yanow
