Black Shampoo

Black Shampoo finally struts its way to DVD in a packed release that should please its fans and help the film live up to its much deserved cult classic status. Greydon Clark's 1976 feature is a bad, mean flick that's peppered with outrageous sex, gratuitous chain saws, and enough blow-dryers to make Warren Beatty jealous. This fine film is presented with a quite nice 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen picture and funky mono soundtrack that manages to do justice to the blaxploitation flick. Though the film itself is a find, the extras should be the real selling point, as this disc is packed to the afros with bonus features. The fun starts with a director's commentary, which is sprinkled with stories from the days of old and really hits home the low-budget nature of the flick. Thanks to the help of Mike White from the Cashiers du Cinemart fanzine, the disc comes complete with some fine liner notes along with a slew of text interviews of the cast and director. Also included is a behind-the-scenes photo gallery and an exclusive 2005 John Daniels telephone interview, plus a slew of deleted scenes that are seen here for the first time. So what are you waiting for? It doesn't get any hotter than Black Shampoo, and with this DVD, you'll now be able to retire those old videos and hit the repeat button forever with this sucker.
