In a catalog whose hallmark has been eclecticism, this lovely, hushed album is probably the most purely folk-derived Gorky's Zygotic Mynci album of the lot. The songs center amost exclusively on finger-picked acoustic guitar, with delicate splashes of piano, strings, and simple but heart-felt vocals that display less than the usual amount of eccentric Gorky goofiness. The freewheeling, deftly-picked "Wrong Turnings" gives off quiet sparks like a classic John Fahey piece, and the piano ballad "Face Like Summer" recalls Neil Young at his most haunted.
