The music on this CD is comprised of originals by pianists Kjell Samuelson (who only actually plays on one song) and Lasse Werner. Essentially advanced hard bop with some surprising twists, the lead voice on most of the selections is the rather dry-sounding tenor saxophonist Bernt Rosengran, who is featured in a quartet with fellow Swedish players. Added to the program are five slightly earlier features for Werner in a trio. The music, although well-played, is not particularly memorable, and none of the originals caught on, but jazz historians may still be interested in the CD. ~ Scott Yanow
