Born in East L.A.

Cheech Marin directs himself in the comedy Born in East L.A., which comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this Universal release to anyone who is not already a fan of Cheech Marin or a genre enthusiast.
