While he has oft had a tendency towards believing too much of his own early hype and trying to get by on lazy rhymes, when he's on his game, Beanie Sigel can bring some of the most clever, tight lyrics in hip-hop. Prior to the release of THE BROAD STREET BULLY, Beanie fiercely worked the mixtape circuit, rehabbing his reputation, perhaps rediscovering his art and refining his flow. The album starts slow, but by the melancholy, borderline-horror rap of "Tear Drops," it's clear that Beanie's come to the mic with fire in his eyes. THE BROAD STREET BULLY, if it doesn't finally fulfill the promise he's held for years, at the very least proves Beanie Sigel deserved his early press.
