Broken Silence

Based on a James Oliver Curwood story, this low-budget Northwest melodrama features Zena Keefe and Jack Hopkins as siblings posing as a married couple in order to flush out the man who killed their father. When the killer, a barracks inspector (J. Barney Sherry), is himself murdered, Hopkins takes the blame for the deed in order to protect his sister. The real murderer, however, makes a last-minute confession and the girl is free to marry the mountie officer (Robert Elliott) she loves. With the possible exception of Zena Keefe, a former ingenue with the pioneering Vitagraph company, and veteran character actor J. Barney Sherry, The Broken Silence featured a cast of complete unknowns.
