This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Personnel includes: Paul Oakenfold, Nelly Furtado, Tricky, Ice Cube, Perry Farrell, Grant Lee Phillips, Hunter S. Thompson, Asher D, Carla Werner, Tiff Lacey, Emiliana Torrini, Shifty Shellshock.
Producers: Paul Oakenfold, Andy Gray, Steve Osborne, Carmen Rizzo.
The wide-ranging, freewheeling modes of BUNKKA (the name comes from Peter Gabriel's studio in the UK, where the album was recorded) are comparable with the catchall stylings of Paul Oakenfold's fellow dance enthusiast, Moby. So it should come as little surprise to anyone who followed Oakenfold's career over the pervious decade that he's come up with an album that's at least as eclectic as anything the aforementioned techno elf had produced lately.
Oakenfold is best known as a dance remix artist, whose credits also include producing Happy Mondays' best-selling PILLS 'N' THRILLS & BELLYACHES and remixing tracks for U2. So the inclusion of several guitar-heavy tracks, plus a guest appearance from Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell, should raise few eyebrows, but it's with dance-flavored cuts such as "Southern Sun" and "Ready Steady Go" that he appears most at home. While his inspiration obviously comes from reworking other artists' tracks, he takes a good stab at constructing (and deconstructing) his own efforts, aided by guest appearances from Tricky, Nelly Furtado, and Ice Cube, whose "Get 'Em Up" is one of the high points here. While Oakenfold's talents as an original artist may be limited, on BUNKKA he makes the most of his alchemical abilities, and the results are occasionally stellar.
