Liner Note Author: Dean Rudland.
Not marketed as such, Can You Feel That Beat: Funky 45s and Other Rare Grooves is, for the most part, a sampler drawn from the catalog of the deep-diving Numero label. With only a handful of exceptions, these rare cuts have appeared on releases in Numero's Eccentric Soul series (like Eccentric Soul: Twinight's Lunar Rotation) and their packages of previously shelved material (such as 24-Carat Black's Gone: The Promises of Yesterday). Taken on its own, there's plenty of fine soul and funk that warrants more than one listen, including Renaldo Domino's "Let Me Come Within," Union's "Strike," Stormy's "The Devastator," and Creations Unlimited's fiery, Funkadelic-inspired "Corruption Is the Thing." Some of the original 45 rpm sources have changed hands for triple-digit sums. ~ Andy Kellman
