This budget collection on the Platinum Disc label is a hodgepodge of nine non-descript versions of cool and bebop tracks including "Blues Walk," by Lou Donaldson, "Wee Dot," by Zoot Sims, and "Bag of Blues," by the Bud Shank Quartet. Even with the appearances of legendary musicians like Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon, Fred Jackson, Stanley Turrentine, Art Pepper, and Gerry Mulligan, it's still advisable to skip this disc and pick up a compilation on one of the legitimate jazz labels like Blue Note, Prestige, or Pacific Jazz. ~ Al Campbell
