The Epics volume of Naxos' Classics at the Movies series presents the orchestral music featured in epic films such as Richard III, Henry V, Barry Lyndon, and Chariots of Fire. Nothing in the collection was written specifically for the films represented; instead, works from notables like Orff, Wagner, and Handel appear, grouped by film name. This means that Classics at the Movies: Epics is essentially a classical music compilation album, with no tangible link to the films represented beyond listing them in the liner notes. Nevertheless, it's a fine set, filled with grandeur and performed with skill by an assortment of symphony orchestras, soloists, and vocalists. ~ Johnny Loftus
