Concert Behind Prison Walls

Johnny Cash headlined this glossy made-for-TV concert special which, despite the fact it was indeed shot inside the Tennessee State Prison in 1977, doesn't look or feel much at all like Cash's famed visits to San Quentin of Folsom Prison, and it doesn't get an especially distinguished presentation on DVD either. Johnny Cash: A Concert Behind Prison Walls has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been remixed for two different formats: Dolby Digital Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1. The images and audio are clear and strong given the vintage of the program, but they're not exceptional either, and Cash's vocals take an audible dip in the mix during the song "Jacob Green." The program is in English, with no multiple language options or closed captioning. The only bonus with this edition is an audio CD that features the soundtrack for the special (including some of the stage announcements). Not a bad package for die-hard fans of the artists, but nothing special either.
