Cult B-movie director Tim Ritter's first film was the 8-mm slasher film DAY OF THE REAPER. Extreme and inventive gore effects highlight the otherwise amusing low-budget effort, the first indication of Ritter's resourcefulness as a filmmaker. Five women on vacation in Florida are hunted by a twisted killer with cannibalistic tendencies. Will any of them survive? Ritter's film was one of the first to be marketed direct-to-video by the director himself, helping set a precedent that changed the way independent films were distributed.
