Come: Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw (guitar, vocals, percussion); Sean O'Brien (bass); Arthur Johnson (drums, vocals).
Additional personnel: Mike McMackin (piano).
Producers: Carl Plaster, Mike McMackin, Bryce Goggin, Come.
Recorded at Easley Studios, Memphis, Tennessee; Baby Monster Studios, New York; The Outpost, Stoughton, Massachusetts in February and March, 1994.
DON'T ASK DON'T TELL, Come's follow-up to its debut, ELEVEN: ELEVEN, builds on the dark, bluesy indie rock of its predecessor. As fine as that debut is, DON'T ASK is a step forward, refining Come's churning guitar attack and wrenching emotions to a sharp point. Frontwoman Thalia Zedek still sings about the dark night of the soul in a voice mythic and mysterious, and the band creates a twilit cacophony full of feedback and crashing rhythms. From sludgy dirges ("Mercury Falls") to all-out rockers ("In/Out"), Come's sophomore release still delivers a no-nonsense punch.
