Personnel includes: Eddie Condon (guitar); Johnny Windhurst, Dick Cary (trumpet); Wild Bill Davidson (cornet); Edmond Hall (clarinet); Ralph Sutton (piano).
Recorded live in New York, New York between December 1951 and June 1952.
Includes liner notes by Wayne Jones.
Vol. 16 in Storyville's series of live Dixieland performances taken from the Dr. Jazz radio series of 1951-1952 features a few different versions of Eddie Condon's band. In fact, the 17 performances are from a dozen different broadcasts. The first four songs feature the Bix Beidebecke-inspired trumpeter Johnny Windhurst, there are four songs with Dick Cary on trumpet, and the remaining nine cuts have the boisterous cornet of Wild Bill Davison. Also heard from taking fine solos are trombonist Cutty Cutshall, clarinetist Edmond Hall, and pianists Gene Schroeder and Ralph Sutton. There are no surprises in the repertoire (Dixieland and swing standards) or in the exuberant ensembles. Dixieland fans will definitely want this fun set. ~ Scott Yanow
