When Nirvana put Seattle's "grunge" scene on the musical map, the connotation was dark imagery, plodding guitars, and heavy sounds. The Posies never attained even a fraction of the success that met Nirvana or Pearl Jam, but their delightfully melodic and muscular brand of power pop was Seattle's anti-angst antidote to grunge's gloom and doom. DREAM ALL DAY, a final collection culled from the cream of the Posies' three Geffen albums and numerous rarities, serves as an epitaph for this criminally overlooked band,
Driven by founding members Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer, The Posies capably created echo-laden melancholia ("Any Other Way"), irresistibly bouncy fare ("My Big Mouth"), dream pop ("Flood of Sunshine"), and hook-laden delights worthy of former Beatles ("Golden Blunders" was later covered by Ringo Starr). The Posies' later material found them bringing a grittier but no less melodic edge to such nuggets as "Ontario" and "Flavor of the Month." As for the five, non-LP tracks included here, The Posies truly shine on their stellar covers of Chris Bell ("I am the Cosmos") and The Hollies ("King Midas in Reverse").
