Though British pop sensation Robbie Williams first made waves in 1995 with his cover of George Michael's "Freedom," it would take several years before his true impact would be felt with the release of his smash major-label debut, THE EGO HAS LANDED.
His dynamic voice and "don't take yourself too seriously" sense of humor are a winning combination, as evidenced in "Strong" when he sings "early morning when I wake up, I look like Kiss but without the make-up." The ballad "Angels" shows that he's equally skilled in expressing the longing of the human soul. The allegory "Jesus in a Camper Van" uses clever name-dropping to make a point about personal responsibility and self-inflicted guilt. The stabs at modern-day values in the hit "Millennium" show just how catchy Robbie's sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek style can be. While his first album, LIFE THRU A LENS, made only slight strides for Williams, he truly arrived with THE EGO HAS LANDED.
