On their tenth studio album, the electro-influenced darkwave band Diary of Dreams introduce a character named "X," whose story frames the songs in seven atmospheric spoken word segments (read by Martin Keßler, the German dubbing voice of Nicolas Cage and Vin Diesel). The songs themselves are slower and more melancholic than the band's more club-oriented previous efforts, with piano and strings often dominating the proceedings. "Push Me" features a guest appearance by singer Amelia Brightman. The two-CD version adds four bonus tracks (one new song, three remixes), while the "limited fan box" adds a 60-page book and various paraphernalia. ~ Christian Genzel
