The biggest lie a publicity agent ever writes about a band is "You might love them, you might hate them, but you can't ignore them." Of course you can. Millions of people every day ignore every band of whom that has ever been said, and the fact is, you won't have any trouble ignoring Treephort if you want to, no matter what their publicist says. But that doesn't mean you should, even if the guys in Treephort are a bunch of deeply twisted psychopaths and their music is an even more deeply twisted clutter of punk, experimental, pop, and metal music that yowls, clatters, and abrades its way across your consciousness for (almost) half an hour. Given that songs like "It Takes Talent to Scream into a Microphone" and "Tape on Mouth" are rather puerile putdowns of other bands, and that "Constant Craving" is, believe it or not, a k.d. lang cover, and that "Tape on Mouth" sounds, incidentally, an awful lot like the early Cure, and that several of these songs include some of the worst guitar solos ever committed to tape, this is a surprisingly fun and enjoyable album. ~ Rick Anderson
