The soundtrack to German director Wim Wenders's meditation on violent crime in America runs the stylistic gamut without ever losing the listener's attention. There's an end-of-the-millennium feel to the instrumental tracks by Ry Cooder, DJ Shadow and Latin Playboys, which merges the futuristic with the primal to fine effect. Tom Waits's previously unreleased "Little Drop Of Poison" could have come straight off RAIN DOGS, and is worth the purchase price all by itself. To sweeten the deal there are new tracks by Spain, Los Lobos, Eels and others. Two distinctive duets round things out: U2 and Sinead O'Connor's "I'm Not Your Baby" and southern soul brothers Michael Stipe and Vic Chesnutt's "Injured Bird."
