English/Scottish Popular Ballads

This nine-album set, edited by Kenneth S. Goldstein and performed by MacColl and A.L. Lloyd, is the first systematic attempt to record a representative sampling of the Child canon of ballads in a traditional British singing style. It is important for academic reasons, but more so for those who simply love the English-language ballad. The disc features exquisite performances by MacColl and Lloyd. ~ Steve Winick
