Enter the Grave

It's rare to hear old-school, no-nonsense thrash metal, but England's Evile play just that. ENTER THE GRAVE could sit comfortably on the rack next to Metallica's MASTER OF PUPPETS or Slayer's REIGN IN BLOOD. Singer/guitarist Matt Drake even sounds more than a little like Slayer vocalist Tom Araya. The title track headbangs with chugging rhythms giving way to speedier thrash passages during the chorus, and "Armored Assault," with its opening battle sounds, comes on like prime paranoid Reagan-era metal. This sort of time capsule, with its denim-jacket heaviness, is always welcome.
