For Certain

On her second EP, For Certain, Puerto Rican-Italian rapper BIA expresses moments of everyday glamor. She enjoys long walks with her partner to the bank on "Skate," and on her breakthrough single, "Whole Lotta Money," she puts on jewelry and luxury clothing "just to go to the bodega." Elsewhere, she's comfortable having sex at home or on a fancy island vacation, but she won't accept a guy who is broke. Throughout, she projects a calm, cool-headed attitude which counters her hard, aggressive lyrics, and the trap production follows a similar direction. Initially released at the end of 2020, the EP ended up charting in the top half of the Billboard 200 in 2021 after "Whole Lotta Money" went viral and its remix featuring Nicki Minaj became a Top 20 hit. ~ Paul Simpson
