Before Pet Sounds became so universally loved Brian Wilson always said that his favourite Beach Boys album was this one. This is the shortest album of their career, and very much a series of vignettes rather than songs. Nonetheless, it is a sheer delight, and one that the High Llamas tried to emulate with HAWAII. Dennis Wilson became noticed as a songwriter of note with "Little Bird" and the beautiful "Be Still." Brian sang lead on "Busy Doin' Nothin'," the most accurate song of his life in which he accurately directs you to his home. FRIENDS passed a lot of people by because of its understatement, but it's a gem nonetheless.
