This slice of prime LPD finds Edward Ka-Spel and company with their most user-friendly record yet. Were it not for Ka-Spel's eccentric sing-speak and sub-gothic demeanor, the Dots would very much be the darlings of many so-called "alternative" and "prog" sets. FROM HERE YOU'LL WATCH THE WORLD GO BY is an excursion into aberrant psychedelia and Middle Ages epiphanies, drenched in alternating layers of acoustic guitars and stereoscopic electronics. The band has become more song-oriented but hasn't lost its penchant for conjuring bittersweet sonic cocktails--offering often laced with swirls of deceptive, lyrical venom. No major surprises here, but in the world of the Dots even their own consistency is something to glimpse in wonder.
