Like Link Wray reproducing with Rocket From The Crypt, the luchador-masked, Nashville neo-surf rockers Los Straitjackets work from a nuts-and-bolts template of shotgun riffs, boogie-down percussion, and jittery lead licks. Favorite moments on ADVENTURES will depend on both the listener's mood and preferred Straitjackets persona. There's the languid, laid-back "Challenger 64" and "Catalina," but also the adrenalized "Cal Speed and "Teen Beast." And for those desiring dub-inspired soul with their feedback-driven surf-garage, there's the purposefully titled "Tubby." But it's the deep cut "The Wild Mouse" that best wraps all the Straitjackets' attributes into a couple of electrifying minutes. Rollicking, rolling, grooving, and soloing with abandon, it epitomizes why ADVENTURES justifies the group's continued mission.
