Norman Petty is best known as the producer/engineer who helped Buddy Holly realize his pioneering vision, but his story did not end with Holly's sad early death. This collection is the second volume of 1960s material from the Petty archives, and it finds the rock-&-roll midwife overseeing a host of late-'60s psychedelic bands, most of whom fall solidly into the esoteric/collector's-classic category. But while Intricate Blend and the Butter Rebellion might never have made a national impact, their paisley-tinged story is still worth telling, and if not for Petty, their work might never have seen the light of day.
