Good Humour for the Rest of the Night is a collection of field recordings made in Northumberland and Cumberland, England in 1954. London's Peter Kennedy was a contemporary of well-known American field recordist and folklorist Alan Lomax, and spent nearly four decades documenting the rural traditional folk music of the British Isles. For this edition of Topic Records' Voice of the People series, 60 of these charming, brief dance tunes have been compiled onto a single disc. Captured on a 1954 field trip and performed by a number of regional fiddlers, accordionists, and whistlers, the strathspeys, reels, hornpipes, and country dances here represent a British culture that was beginning to fade at the time of the recording. ~ Timothy Monger
