For his 2006 C.I.A. thriller, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, director/actor Robert De Niro originally enlisted veteran composer James Horner, but creative differences led to his departure, and Marcel Zarvos and Bruce Fowler replaced him. Although this is one of the first high-profile scores for both musicians, they evoke the urgency of the movie's cloak-and-dagger proceedings with expertise, often using ominous string and piano lines to effectively ratchet up the film's tension.
