Ironically, singer/guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe's twin gospel and blues career stunted both, and the fact that she was a woman singing solo in an era of male quartets didn't help. But she was one of the finest of all solo gospel singers and a highly individual one. These stunning, mostly acoustic, performances are pinnacles of the African-American religious tradition. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
