Personnel includes: Daniel Bedingfield (vocals); Solid R.O.C.K (rap vocals); David Okumu, Mark Johns (guitar); Leo Green (saxophone); Matt Holland (trumpet); Lewis Taylor (Hammond B-3 organ); Miles Bold (percussion).
Producers: Mark Taylor, Daniel Bedingfield, Al Stone, Ali Staton.
"Gotta Get Thru This" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording.
Sure, this young UK singer earned a smash hit in England straight out of the gate with his first single (which provides the title track for this debut album) by combining R&B grooves and pop smarts. But what he comes up with is ultimately more reminiscent of vintage Michael Jackson and George Michael than of any boy-band types. For one thing, you'd never guess he wasn't American, and for any R&B-based singer from Mick Jagger to the aforementioned Mr. Michael there is no higher praise. Also, as evidenced on the opening cut "Blown it Again" and the infectious "James Dean," he ups the lyrical content a notch above what's normally expected by purveyors of this type of sound. In this and in his forthright display of confidence and attitude to spare, Bedingfield brings to mind a younger, more innocent Robbie Williams, and displays no less potential.
