Showcased vocalists include: Irmgard Seefried (performing selections from Egk), Gré Brouwenstijn (performing selections from Wagner) , Christa Ludwig (performing selections from Mahler and Brahms), Galina Vishnevskaya (performing selections from Tchaikovsky), Gundula Janowitz (performing selections from Beethoven); most of the screen time, however, is given to coloratura soprano Rita Streich, who interprets selections from Schubert, Mozart, Wolf, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Strauss.
