On Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's GREATEST HITS, the "Greatest" part is largely undeniable, but "Hits" is technically a misnomer, since some of these songs barely dented the Top 40, and some weren't even singles. That said, with the exception of latter-day tracks "Lonesome Day" and "Radio Nowhere," these are undoubtedly some of the most iconic tunes in Springsteen's mighty canon. From the loose, Bob Dylan-meets-Van Morrison rush of early tracks like "Rosalita" to the intense, trenchant drive of "Dancing in the Dark" and "Born in the U.S.A.," this is Springsteen and the E Street Band (as opposed to Springsteen the solo artist) at their most essential and unforgettable.
