Laughter leads to self-reflection in this disarming comedy-drama about mentally unstable New York carpenter Roger Greenberg (Ben Stiller), who temporarily relocates to L.A. to house-sit for his brother Phillip and bonds with Phillip's assistant Florence while reaching out to some old friends. When he's not penning consumer complaint letters or building a doghouse, Roger attempts to reconnect with his former bandmate Ivan, who's still bitter over a past disagreement.
