Columbia River Group's Guts and Gore Sound Effects dutifully lives up to its billing with nearly 50 tracks of cartoonish violence that range from creature-feature gurgling ("Monster Cutting Up Body with Table Saw") to straight-up murder ("Car Running Over People"). Each cut features the appropriate amount of maniacal laughter and rumbling thunder, and some selections ("Arm Being Ripped Off," "Axe Chopping Body," and "Guts Squishing") are nearly a minute-and-a-half-long (ouch). Other highlights include "Bloody Guts in Blender" and "Hell's Ranging Fire," the latter of which is a truly dismal affair, as it purports that the armpit of the afterlife is populated by either a single, incessantly moaning sinner or one extremely lonely Prince of Darkness. ~ James Christopher Monger
