Originally announced as a three-album series, Hogg Life: The Beginning, Pt. 1 of 4 blows things up to a more epic four, and considering the numerous highlights here, fans will find that well-deserved. Newcomers may be alienated by lyrics that are strictly street knowledge plus traditional beats that come from the hardcore handbook, and yet, when the Thug's cool, Bun B-like delivery is dropped on top, baller music lovers are drawn in like moths to the flame. The guest list is kept lean with Z-Ro and Propain being the big names, and with a strong track list all around, lead single and key cut "The Top" doesn't need to come in until the fourth quarter. ~ David Jeffries
