The Boston bluegrass quartet Crooked Still's debut album is a collection of traditional covers given an updated treatment by a lineup that includes cello and Aoife O'Donovan's smoothly seductive vocals. They give the classic "Lonesome Road" a brand new melody, working similar ethereal magic on the beautiful country song "Rank Strangers," though their versions of "Shady Grove" and "Darling Corey" show they're more than capable of fresh interpretations that stick close to the originals.
