U.K. electro-pop ensemble Hot Chip has carved a singular niche as gifted songwriters and seasoned live performers. On their contribution to the ongoing DJ KICKS series, they compile and mix a diverse set featuring music from their most noteworthy influences. A startling array of music from seemingly disparate genres is on offer. Ranging from underground techno and hip-hop to '80s synth pop, the music jumps from one improbable juxtaposition to the next; even snippets of classic R&B by Etta James and Ray Charles are thrown in the mix. Capping off the epic mix is Joe Jackon's "Steppin' Out," which in this context becomes a pulsing hi-NRG disco number.
